Yoga with a view

Few New Yorkers are able to locate Long Island City on a map. In Queens? Further east on Long Island?
Here’s a clue: it’s where MOMA PS1 is located. If you have ever ventured to Long Island City it’s usually for the Saturday afternoon summer parties in the museum’s courtyard (rarely for their contemporary off-the-wall art collection – don’t kid yourself).

The neighborhood’s gentrification is underway. At only one subway stop from Manhattan, just across Midtown East, Long Island City aspires to become the next Brooklyn. There is not (yet) the same gastronomic and nightlife on offer, but there are some hidden treasures worth crossing the East River for.
The Z hotel is the chic and trendy place to stay in the neighborhood. It has a Standard hotel-like vibe and a view the Wythe hotel in Brooklyn has nothing on. Plus, the hotel organizes summer yoga classes on its rooftop. Not only are you exercising outdoors, but you also enjoy the stunning view of Manhattan, the Chrysler building and Queensboro Bridge. An architectural harmony that should help open all your chakras.

And if you were too focused on your plank pose to admire the skyline, do not worry: you have one hour after the class to enjoy cocktails while watching the sunset. It is the perfect yoga/drinks formula: from 8:30pm light bites and skinny cocktails are served. A “healthy” happy hour created for the occasion with low calorie margaritas! The motto “a sound mind in a sound body” never made so much sense – Namaste.
