Spending August in NYC? Lucky you!

Azul rooftop cinema

Any plans for Monday night? Movie buffs or night owls: rendez-vous on Hotel Hugo’s rooftop. A hotel hidden in Hudson Square, a sort of no-man’s land between the trendy neighborhoods of Soho and TriBeCa, lost between a UPS center and the Holland Tunnel’s entrance. Anti-glamor you said? Trust us, it’s Downtown’s most stylish terrace.

Take the elevator, go to the top floor and enter the very chic Hugo bar with its large bay windows and its stunning 360-degree views of Manhattan. You will feel the urge to order a cocktail at the bar and enjoy the panorama. But STOP: keep going! There’s more than meets the eye. Look for a concealed door, take the back stairway and climb to the rooftop. Welcome to Azul. A Cuban bar with Latin accents, amber rum fragrance and a salsa vibe. Above all, this terrace has its own outdoor cinema. Every Monday evening until mid-October, a film is projected on the brick wall overhanging the bar. It has free entrance and free popcorn.

3 pieces of advice before we leave you to your screening:
– The must-have cocktail: Azul (vodka, ginger beer, peach, lime and blue curaçao).
– The must-watch movie: The Grand Budapest Hotel (because we are big fans of Wes Anderson’s fanciful universe).
– The must-reserve spot: the comfy sofas at the back of the terrace facing the screen.
Now you’re ready to experiment the Seventh Art with your head in the stars and your nose in the skyscrapers. Enjoy!
