Movie with a view

Movie with a view

Movie-lovers, do not despair! NYC movie theaters may have closed, but that is not a reason to give up on the big screen. There’s something brewing in Greenpoint: a deserted parking lot, a killer-view on the Empire State Building, a giant screen… As you may have guessed, drive-ins are making a comeback!

This American phenomenon of the 60s proves to be the ideal solution for enjoying the seventh art while respecting social distancing. On the screen, there is something for everyone: from cult movies (GoodFellas) to recent Oscar-winners (Joker), from familial comedies (Minions) to horror movies (Us). Don’t forget to bring a blanket, a few beers and some popcorn (they also have a snack stand on-site). With friends or family, this convivial experience is a good remedy to fight the current gloominess brought on by quarantine.

We already know what you’re going to tell us: you don’t have a car. Don’t panic, they have a brand new seating area where you can sit back and enjoy a movie even if you don’t own a car. One drawback: this drive-in doesn’t come cheap. You’ll need to spend $55 per car (so plan a party of at least 3) or $22 for individual outdoor seating. Enjoying the only drive-in with a skyline view comes with a big price tag.

Imagine this: it’s 9pm and the sun has set on the East River and its skyscrapers. With Manhattan’s lights on the horizon, you are comfortably seated in your car or outside and the title sequence is roaring over the speakers. This unique screening has the delicious taste of vacation or, even better, of things getting back to normal – and that’s priceless.
